By Kate • Jul 10th, 2009 • Category: news

Congratulations to Tom Metcalfe who has won the 2009 Doggetts coat and badge race.  He’s been racking his boat at Thames while training and has been coached by Paddy Ryan.

Doggetts Coat and Badge Race
Said to be one of the oldest continuing sporting contests in the UK, if not the world, the Doggetts Coat and Badge Race was first established in 1715. The single scull race covers a distance of 4 miles 7 furlongs, and is open to newly qualified members of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen who operate on the River Thames.
